About the role
The Electromagnetic Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and optimization of magnetic structures and resonant systems for near-field wireless power transfer applications. This role focuses on high-current, high-Q magnetic design rather than traditional RF antenna development. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with power magnetics, including inductors, transformers, resonant structures, and wireless power systems operating in the low MHz range.
This position requires a practical engineer capable of bridging EM theory with real-world implementation. Responsibilities include high-Q coil development, magnetic modeling, parasitic and thermal analysis, coupling optimization, shielding strategies, and integration into compact electromechanical systems. Candidates should understand challenges associated with operating magnetic and power electronic systems at low MHz frequencies, including skin and proximity effects, EMI/EMC considerations, and material selection.
This role is highly technical and research-oriented, with opportunities to directly influence the next generation of wireless power technology. The Electromagnetic Engineer will contribute to advancing proprietary high-Q resonant coil architectures and help push the limits of efficiency, alignment tolerance, power density, and system scalability.
Competitive compensation includes a base salary, healthcare benefits, and stock options in the company.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and optimize high-Q resonant coil systems for wireless power transfer applications operating in the low MHz range (6.78MHz and similar frequencies)
- Develop custom magnetic structures including inductors, transformers, resonant coils, and shielding solutions for high power density systems
- Perform electromagnetic analysis focused on coupling, parasitics, losses, thermal effects, and efficiency optimization under real-world operating conditions
- Collaborate with power electronics engineers on system-level integration
- Design, prototype, test, and validate magnetic components and wireless power assemblies in laboratory environments
- Improve coil architectures with emphasis on quality factor (Q), alignment tolerance, manufacturability, thermal performance, and power transfer efficiency
- Evaluate magnetic materials, conductor technologies, ferrite structures, and packaging approaches for compact wireless power systems
- Support EMC/EMI analysis and mitigation strategies
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to transition designs from prototype to production
